Ombre Tie Dye Technique
Instructions
Add Water to the Bottle
Prewash fabric to remove sizing. Do not use fabric softener or dryer sheets. Do not dry dress.
Cover work surface with plastic tablecloth. Lay damp dress on prepared surface.
Wearing rubber gloves, add water to dye bottle. Replace cap tightly. Shake until dye is dissolved.
Pour Dye into Spray Bottle
Pour dye from bottle into spray bottle.
Pour Water into Spray Bottle
Add water to fill bottle. Shake well.
Begin Spraying Dye
Spray bottom half of garment first, applying dye about ¼ of the way up.
Fill Bottle with More Water
Fill spray bottle with more water. Shake well.
Spray Another Shade
Spray next to dark color and up to about midway on garment. Refer to photo.
Fill Bottle with More Water
Fill spray bottle with water. Shake well.
Spray Remaining Areas
Spray remaining white areas of garment.
Cover garment with plastic tablecloth. Let sit 4-6 hours. Wash in a large load of water with a small amount of laundry soap. Line dry.

Folding Tie Dye Technique
Place damp fabric flat on work surface.
Pleat fabric.
Bind fabric
Bind folds with rubber bands every 1 to 2 inches.
Apply dye
Apply dye to folded edge of fabric. Flip fabric over and repeat.
If desired, repeat with another color.
Continue until all fabric is covered or apply alternative dye colors between banded sections.
Sunburst Tie Dye Technique
Create circles
Prewash fabric to remove sizing. Do not use fabric softener or dryer sheets. Cover work surface with a plastic tablecloth. Lay fabric flat on work surface. Decide where you want the circles to be. Pinch fabric and bind with rubber band
Salt Resist Tie Dye Technique
If you've never tried this tie dye technique before, definitely give it a whirl! Once you've mastered basic techniques like swirl or bullseye, it's time to take your skills to the next level with this excellent tutorial. This method takes a bit more time than ordinary tie dye, but the salt resist medium you'll use creates a really stunning texture for a finished tie dye project.
Salt Resist Tie Dye Technique Instructions
Dye fabric
Prewash fabric to remove sizing. Do not use fabric softener or dryer sheets.
Cover work surface with a plastic tablecloth, then layers of paper towels.
Fabric should be damp or wet. If using sheer fabric, elevate fabric from work surface by draping over bowl or bucket. Dye fabric. When dye is poured on fabric it will absorb through and collect inside bowl or bucket.
Sprinkle on salt
Sprinkle on Salt Resist. Let set 4-6 hours.
Brush off Salt Resist.
Wash inside out in warm water to remove Salt Resist.
Create design with salt
You can create designs with the salt.
